荠菜以其清香鲜美的味道和明显的保健医疗作用而深得人们的喜爱。它含有丰富的蛋白质、脂肪、糖分、维生素A、B、C、D,还含有比较高的钙、磷、铁及芳香物质;具有明目、益胃、止血、利尿、治痢、降低血压等医疗作用,有很高的食用和药用价值。但是,目前仅有上海、南京等城市进行了人工栽培,而我国中部以北地区尚无人工栽培的报道。平顶山市农科所1991年引进上海板叶荠菜及当地野生花叶荠菜进行冬季高产栽培试验获得成功,并总结出了一套冬季高产栽培
