Calculating the length of contact line of planar secondary enveloping worm and understanding the size of the contact area of worm gear is the basis of worm transmission strength analysis. The total length of the contact line of the worm pair is calculated by using the knowledge of the space engagement principle and the numerical integral method. The concept of the change factor of the total length of the contact line is proposed and the actual contact area of the tooth surface is obtained
