Falconbridge is an important base metal producer in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The company recognized the need to find a safe and economical way to replace the welded rebar that was commonly used for loose rock support in underground nickel mining. The company conducted a systematic study envisaging the use of a spray lining instead of a screen and using the strength characteristics of the liner to prove it to be a safe, economical and appropriate method of rock support. The company has developed forming briquetting, hydraulic mixing and injection equipment and has put into operation at its Fraser mine. Tekflex has replaced steel mesh in practice and was put into operation in January 1998
