我县属于鄂西大山区,常年种植玉米35.0万亩,产量占全县粮食总产43%,是我县主要粮食作物。“八五”期间,我县决定把开发利用紧凑型杂交玉米作为农业技术推广的重点项目,计划在本期末推广面积20万亩,总产10万t。1991年在全县共安排28点次。示范面积1.2万亩,总产529.68万kg,单产与平展型玉米相比,紧凑型玉米亩净增115.5kg,增产幅度为35.4%。实践证明,紧凑型杂交玉米在我县大面积示范中表现有早熟、矮秆、抗倒、丰产等突出优点,在山区作为开发项目有着广阔的前景。但是,我们在大量的测产验收中发现,部分田块的紧凑型杂交玉米与平展型杂交玉米相比较,不但没增产,相反是减产,没有真正发挥紧凑型杂交玉米的增产潜力,究其原因,普遍存在以下几个方面的问题。
