The Ghanaian Ministry of Health is preparing a bill for Congress that meets the needs of the traditional medicine patent law. Nana Agyentutu Ofei, director of both traditional and alternative medicine at the Ministry of Health, said the law would encourage practitioners of traditional medicine to provide information about their preparations to promote safety and introduce high-quality herbal medicines. Although Ofei acknowledges that the granting of herbal medicines is complex, the council is working with consultants on ways to expand intellectual property. Traditional medicine practitioners are reluctant to provide these preparations because they worry that their preparations will be leaked to scientists who have experimentation, analysis and possibly reproduction with modern equipment
