It was held in Beijing from September 13 to August 20, 1981 with about 140 participants. The main agenda of the conference is to review the new achievements of Mesozoic and Cenozoic tectonics research in China since the Second National Tectonic Conference in 1979 and to exchange ideas and learn from each other for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Geological Society of China in 1982
