越过太平洋飞往大西洋屈指算来我做外交工作有40年。在这40年中,我出使过东欧国家、日本和印度,率团访问过不少地方,领略过各地的风采、情谊、名胜古迹和不同的文明。然而我却从来没机会踏上美洲的土地,没有到过美国这个超级大国。倒是在我离休后作为一名普通游客拜访了美国。没有公务在身,可算是到美国潇洒走一回。那是1993年12月7日,天气晴朗。我们夫妇乘日本全日空班机经东京赴美国。机上乘客不多,大概是
I’ve been in diplomatic work for 40 years across the Pacific to the Atlantic. In these 40 years, I have been expatriates in Eastern European countries, Japan and India. The delegation has visited many places and enjoyed the elegance, friendship, places of interest and civilizations of different places. However, I never had the chance to embark on the land of the Americas and have never been to this superpower in the United States. It touches on the post-retirement visit to the United States as an ordinary tourist. No official in the body, can be regarded to the United States to go back gracefully.
