“惟楚有才,于斯为盛”。湖南地处长江中游,自古人文鼎盛,才俊辈出,明清以来更是文学繁盛,灿若群星。湖南历代留下了丰富的著述,其中以个人别集数量最丰,这必然导致了总集编纂的兴盛。早在唐代就出现了有关湖南内容的艺文总集《荆潭唱和集》,此后宋代湖南艺文总集日渐增多,明清时已相当繁盛,出现了湖南历史上最重要的三部全省地方艺文总集,即邓显鹤的《沅湘耆旧集》、罗汝怀的《湖南文征》和张翰仪的《湘雅摭残》。此外还产生了大量专收某一郡邑或某一家族艺文的郡邑艺文总集或家族艺文总集。

Since then, the total anthology of Hunan arts and literature has been on the rise in the Song Dynasty, and has become quite prosperous in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Provincial Arts and Literature Collection, that is, Deng Xianhe “old collection of Yuanxiang,” Luo Ruhuai “Hunan Wen Zheng” and Zhang Hanyi “Xiangya shame.” In addition, there are a large number of prefectural arts collections or family art collections devoted to a particular county town or family.
