In 1960, BBC started to adopt electronic functional units on locomotives and ships to improve the working performance and operating conditions of the equipment and increase the system power. The scope and number of applications are gradually expanding. Since 1973, an integrated circuit based component system has evolved to create a modern BBC series of traffic electronic devices marked IC-V (IC-Integrated Circuit, V-Transportation).
