新的一年已经开始,英国各大媒体最近纷纷发表文章,预测1998年世界科技发展的热点和可能取得的突破。这些预测虽然大多都为一家之言,但基本上勾勒出了世界科技在未来一年中一些大的走势。 1998年最有可能取得突破的领域是受控核聚变研究。最近几个月来,位于英国牛津郡的联合欧洲环(JET)接连刷新受控核聚变输出功率的世界记录,目前已取得最高输出功率达输入功率百分之六十五的成果。据认为,该中心在新的一年中很可能会实现输出功率与输入功率等值的目标。若果真如此,那将是受控核聚变研究的一个里程碑,是人类在寻找取之不竭的新能源征途上迈出的重要一步。
The new year has already begun. The major British media have published articles recently to predict the hotspot and possible breakthroughs in world science and technology in 1998. Although most of these forecasts are for one, they basically outline some major trends in the world's science and technology in the coming year. The most likely breakthrough in 1998 was in controlled nuclear fusion research. In recent months, the Joint European Ring (JET), located in Oxfordshire, England, has set a world record in refurbishing controlled fusion output power and has now achieved the highest output power of 65% of input power. It is believed that the center is likely to achieve its goal of equivalent output power and input power in the new year. If so, that will be a milestone in the study of controlled nuclear fusion and a significant step forward in the search for inexhaustible new energy.
