众所周知,由于20世纪接种牛痘的技术在全球范围内的普及,天花病毒终于无处藏身。1980年,世界卫生组织(WHO)压严宣布:“天花已在全世界被消失”。这一事实被公认为是有史以来,人类征服传染病的最为辉煌的战果。发明牛痘的英国乡村医生爱得华.詹纳(E·Jenner)固然为人类做出了划时代贡献,而我国在与天花病魔的长期斗争中,发明并不断探索的用“人痘”接种来预防天花的方法为牛痘的问世奠定了基础,中华民族不可磨灭的贡献永载史册！
