初中代数里的四个基本课题——数的概念,式的恒等变换,方程和函数,都是以字母表示数为基础的数用字母来表示后,抽象的程度又提高了一步,数学中的定理、法则等变得更为概括,对于客观事物中的数量关系可以研究得更为深透。所以学生学习代数,一开始就要接触到以字母表示数的问题。从目前教学情况来看,学生初学习这节教材时,一般还感到有些困难,分析其原因,大概有两个方面:一、在算术中大多是数值的计算,学起来比较容易,现在把数变成抽象的符号(字母),一时难于接受;二、教师对教材的领会不够,不理解字母表示数在整个代数课程里的地位和作用,没有深入研究其教法,因而影响到教学的效果。怎样突破这个难点?这里我提出几点个人的看法。

How to break through this difficulty? Here I make a few personal opinions.
