It should be said that the state or monarch’s sponsorship of visual arts is a means for states and monarchs to use architectural and visual images to strengthen their authority and power. The history of such sponsorship can be as long as that of the government and the country. In this sense, the establishment of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts is not the first time that the state has taken part in the field of visual arts in British history, let alone a worldwide initiative. However, for the British government, the establishment of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts was the first major move it had taken under the government model of intervention in art, with the aim of advancing visual art as part of popular culture. This model of intervention art steadily lasted more than two centuries. In other words, the Royal Academy of Arts was the first semi-autonomous non-governmental organization in the visual arts field.
