The most discussed news in China in Febru- ary is none other than the sudden and unexpected crackdown on pornographic services in Dongguan， which is a city known for its advanced porn industry. It even boasts “100 thousand prostitutes”. During the recent activity， there were 12 places shut down for involvement into porn services and more than 60 prostitutes and clients arrested.
The massive crackdown on pornographic services in Dongguan has drawn many people’s attention. This event， initiated by CCTV’s undercover investigation into the pornographic services of Dongguan， has been under heavy scrutiny from the very start. Several voices emerged out， praising the activities that aim at wiping out the “unethical deals” or claiming the innocence of prostitutes or advocating the legalization of porn industry.
Many people criticized CCTV’s deeds for their ignorance of people’s privacy since the “prostitutes” even had their faces “revealed in front of the public”. Such a method is not recommendable， but as some experts said， some of the “prostitutes” reported by CCTV were not those street girls who were forced to provide pornographic services for their mere survival. These are the “mistresses” or “ladies” in high-end hotels of Dongguan with high academic degrees and excellent artistic skills. Their income is usually high and they live luxury lives. Some of them are not considered to be the“weak side” that the society considered them to be.
Actually， CCTV’s report and the policemen’s actions not only target the porn industry of Dongguan， but also stab at the corruption behind the prosperous porn industry of this city. On one hand， Dongguan’s porn industry could remain standing for 20 years and nearly every people in China know of it. An important reason is that it has local authorities serving as the umbrella. Therefore， at this time， several heads of police stations in Dongguan was removed from their posts.
On the other hand， the porn industry based on the high-end hotels targets no ordinary people. These coming to “enjoy the high-end porn services” are either people with money or people with power. It is no longer a secret that the porn services in Dongguan have become a convenient tool for the ill-purposed businessmen to offer bribes to governmental officials. In the past 20 years， there are a lot of governmental officials falling into the beds of prostitutes in Dongguan， as well as the web of corruption， which greatly damaged the fame of the government and the economic development of China.
It is even said that the umbrella is larger than the local authorities of Dongguan and the higher-level government might be involved. Therefore， CCTV， the voice of the central government of China， reported the case， showing the central government’s hatred for the unethical industry that is closely related to the corruption. It also shows the Chinese central government’s determination to crack down on the corruption， which has been a topic since the establishment of the new leading team.
Therefore， the true purpose behind the crackdown on porn industry is to wipe out or at least to give out a warning for the corruption that supports the porn industry. Only in that way the illegal business can be ended eternally.
