日本当代著名报纸《朝日新闻》之报头题字,乃欧阳询之手笔,此事颇令人疑惑,欧阳率更为千余年前之人士,何以还能为日本当代报纸题字?此事当从欧阳询所负盛名谈起。欧阳询,字信本,湖南临湘人,唐代初期著名的书法家。曾任太子率更令,所以一般人又称他为欧阳率更。声名显赫,为唐宋八大家之首,年少时曾就读于湖南省望城县书堂山,据清同治年间撰修之《长沙县志》载:“书堂山,唐欧阳询父子读书处,”山脚原有书堂寺一座,亦称“崇胜古刹”,寺中有石案,传为欧阳询攻读练字之案,寺之左,半山腰间,自然形成大青石一方,上刻“洗笔泉”三个隶书大字,石下有一泉水池,据云乃欧氏父子洗笔处,迄今已悠悠千载。
