In the late 1950s, Gibson launched two Flying V and Explorer guitars in response to Fender’s competition for electric guitar design. Time proved that both guitars were just as successful as the previous Gibson models. But then again, too avant-garde at the time of the design of these two guitar! Therefore, during the period just launched, they did not achieve commercial success. The commercial wound quickly healed. In 1963, Gibson set out to design a new solid guitar. This Gibson goal directly points to Fender’s market share. In design, Ted Carty and Co decided to borrow some design inspiration from (?) (?) They came to Detroit Automotive Design Advisor Ray
