This date is not set by the tourist age when the tourists are getting more and more need of the forest. It was laid in 1915. On July 30 of that year, upon proposal of Sun Yat-sen, the Beijing government set the Ching Ming Festival as the Chinese Arbor Day. After the capital city of Nanjing was capitalized, the National Government executed the tree planting ceremony on March 12, 1928 and decided on April 27 to change the date of March 12, the day of Sun Yat-sen’s death, into a tree planting day. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, afforestation was the call made by the Party Central Committee to all the people. On February 23, 1979, the Sixth Meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress passed the Forest Law of the People’s Republic of China (Trial Implementation), setting March 12 as China Arbor Day.
