汪直,明朝徽州歙县丝绸大商贾。古时的徽州人,为了生存,四处经商,他们的足迹,不仅遍及全国,而且远及海外,甚至敢于违犯禁令,从事海上走私贸易。嘉靖年间,汪直和福建的邓獠以及许栋兄弟等人,纠集葡萄牙、马陆甲、日本等国家和地区的海商,在杭州湾外舟山群岛双屿、大茅港一带,共同创建了具有国际性的海贸市场。汪直仿效西方海商,制造大舰并武装起来,称雄于东亚海域,甚至在日本五岛建立了商业殖民地,进行海上贸易扩张,影响至今。前几年,日本一个庞大的代表团来徽州寻根,说自己是汪直的后代。他们现在居住的那座城市里,自称是汪直后代的竟有两万多人,因此他们都称自己是徽州人。
