人类学片“是在人类学理论指导下,综合运用人类学研究的科学方法和影视学的表现手段,对人类文化进行观察和研究,所取得成果的形象化表述”。人类学片是纪录片的重要类型,它主要关注人的生存状态和人类文化。《北方的纳努克》既是早期人类学片也是早期纪录片的经典之作。人类学纪录片有两类,一类主要是为人类学家分析研究的可靠资料,片子一般较长,多数是素材。另外一类是经过后期剪辑面向大众的人类学纪录片,它们反映人类学对文化的理解或采用新颖的、富有震撼力的镜头语言来传递人类学见解,一般较精简。同样的素材可以通过不同需要剪辑成这两类不同的片子,
