The swirl pool of a special steel continuous casting project in Sichuan Province is a circular caisson, see Figure 1. The caisson has an outer diameter of 9.6 meters and an inner diameter of 8 meters. The open caisson has a self-weight of 652 tons and it needs to sink to 11.5 meters underground.
