How to make the new editorial staff early results, as early as possible, is a common concern of the press. Over the years, people are constantly looking for new “cut-offs” in order to get things done early. Early last winter, I had the honor to visit two news institutes in Hamburg, Germany, and the Frankfurter Repo, and saw that they had a good track record of training their editors with a “two-track system.” The “two track system” is a major component of the German education system. Its main feature is that the trainees receive professional education in two different locations, namely, enterprises and public institutions and schools.
