With the rapid development of positron emission tomography (PET), its value for drug research and development is gaining more and more attention. PET can quantitatively measure drug distribution in vivo and changes over time. Both direct labeling of drugs with positron-emitting nuclides can be used to study them, and indirect methods can also be used to study the competitive binding of drugs to receptors as well as their effects on various functions and metabolism. PET has potential applications in all stages of drug discovery and development. On the basis of introduction of PET principle, this article mainly reviews the application value of the above aspects.
