The ancient Egyptians was one of the earliest people in the world to maintain the rights and interests of women through marriage contracts. Ancient Egyptian marriage contract stipulates in written form the responsibility and obligation of husband to his wife, and provides powerful protection for women’s economic rights and interests. However, the rights granted by women to marriage are strictly controlled by various factors. They reflect the double standards of the society of ancient Egypt regarding the gender of men and women, and also reflect the reality that women are attached to men. Therefore, although the ancient Egyptian marriage contract played an important role in safeguarding the rights of women, it did not mask the subordination of women in the male-dominated society.
