On January 11, the first batch of 20 Taliban and Osama bin Laden al Qaeda important POWs arrived at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay. On the 14th, the second batch of 30 important prisoners flew here from Afghanistan. Hundreds of Taliban and al-Qaeda prisoners were shipped here after some time. This marks the formal opening of a converted prison for the naval base. The prison is now capable of holding 220 prisoners of war and will be further expanded in the future. After the entire project is completed, 2,000 prisoners of war will be detained here for a long time. At present, one can not but ask: Why is there an U.S. military base in Cuba that has been irreconcilable with the United States over the years? Why did the United States choose to detain prisoners at Guantanamo Bay? The U.S. Guantanamo naval base has become the focus of attention all over the world. The Taliban and bin Laden The fate of al-Qa’eda prisoners of war is even more cause for concern.
