日本海上自卫队目前正在建造与舾装高波级多用途驱逐舰,通过的造舰预算是建造5艘,不过根据以往的造舰计划推估,未来应该会造8～10艘。该级舰是村雨级多用途驱逐舰的改进型,最明显的改变是主炮和导弹垂直发射系统。首舰“高波”号(Takanami DD—110)已于2001年7月26日在日本住友重工追浜造船厂下水,并开始在住友重工浦贺工厂进行舾装,定于2003年3月服役。配属护卫舰队第1护卫队群,母港横须贺。
