淮阳古代称为陈州,位于河南省的东部,地属黄淮平原。这里气候温和,雨量充沛,河流密布,土地肥沃,极宜于人类的生产和生活。相传为“太吴之墟”,是中华民族占老文明的发祥地之一。现为河南省级历史文化名城。平粮台龙山文化城址位于淮阳县城东南四公里的大朱庄西南角的平粮台台地上。台地高出周围地面3—5米,面积近百亩。1979年秋季至1980年,河南省文物研究所对平粮台城址进行了发掘,取得十分重要的收获。平粮台城址平面呈正方形,方向6度。城内的长宽各185米,共达面积34000多平方米。现存城墙的顶部宽8—10米,下部宽13米,残高3米许。城
