1996年11月20日,香港嘉利大厦发生火灾,死亡39人,受伤81人,失踪40人。大火延烧了21个小时,从下午4时烧至次日下午1时,才被扑灭。一幢好端端的大楼被烧成残垣断壁,楼内的设备、商品大部分化为灰烬,直接经济损失1亿多美元。这是香港开埠以来,在商住楼宇火灾中,持续延烧时间最长,死伤人数最多的一场火灾,被香港人视为恐怖性的灾难。 嘉利大厦位于香港九龙弥敦道231号,是一幢地下3层,地上15层的旧式楼房,地下1至3层和地上1
On November 20, 1996, a fire broke out in Garley Building, Hong Kong. There were 39 deaths, 81 injured and 40 missing. Fire spread for 21 hours, from 4 pm to 1 pm the next day before it was extinguished. A good end of the building was burned into ruins, the building’s equipment, most of the goods into ashes, the direct economic losses of more than 100 million US dollars. This is a fire that has been the longest in the history of commercial and residential fires since the opening of Hong Kong and has caused the largest number of deaths and injuries. It is considered as a terrible disaster by Hong Kong people. Located at 231 Nathan Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong, Garley Mansion is a 3-story, 15-storey basement building with 1 to 3 underground floors and 1 above ground floor.
