A double blind study was done on the thera-peutic effect of sodium tanshinone IIA sul-fonate in coronary heart disease.The drug wasadministered daily in intravenous drips for 14days at a dosage of 160 mg in 250 ml of 5%glucose.Phenolphthaleiu was used as a placebo.Symptomatic improvement after the drug andplacebo was 73.1% and 42.8%,and EKG improve-ment 59.7% and 25.4% respectively(P<0.001).There was no change in blood and plasmaviscosity,blood fibrinogen,apex cardiogram,systolic time interval,or impedence cardiogrambefore and after the treatment.The authors presumed that the improve-ment of symptoms and EKG after treatment wasprobably due to the increased velocity of co-ronary capillary blood flow,which provided abetter oxygen supply to the ischemic myocar-dium.
