About 30% of people infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) can develop renal insufficiency. Kidney disease is a major complication of HIV infection and is a common cause of patient progression and death. This article describes antiviral treatment regimens recommended by the Infectious Diseases Society for Adult HIV-Related Nephropathy (HIVAN) guidelines.
