连士升写作过大量传记作品,并使用了各种传记形式,其中书信作品是他的主要成就。他接受了中国传统文化的教育,儒家学说中的“经世致用”被他赋予新的意义。他具有开阔的世界眼光,到了新加坡以后,他自觉地适应环境的需要,努力把中国文化同西方文化和南洋文化结合起来,创造新加坡文化。他为新加坡读者写作,关心新加坡的实际问题,适应新加坡的需要,充满务实精神。连士升的作品反映了新加坡文化的特点,新加坡传记从这里诞生了。
Liansheng wrote a large number of biographies, and used a variety of biographical forms, of which letters works is his main achievement. He accepted the education of Chinese traditional culture, and Confucianism’s “utility” was given new meaning by him. He has an open world vision. After coming to Singapore, he consciously adapted to the needs of the environment and worked hard to combine Chinese culture with Western culture and Southeast Asian culture to create Singaporean culture. He writes for Singaporean readers, cares about Singapore’s practical problems, adapts to the needs of Singapore, and is full of pragmatism.
