February 1982 The first full-size MX missile with flying weight was assembled for modal testing of flight configuration test bombs. To approximately simulate the free-free boundary conditions of a missile in flight, the suspension system is required to provide a suitable separation ratio between the transverse suspension frequency and the bending frequency of the specimen. Developed a large base ring suspension system. The ring base is mounted on the rear of the first stage rocket and suspended vertically with three 200-inch long rockers. Even though the center of gravity of the specimen is significantly higher than the upper support point of the pendulum, the three-point suspension system maintains lateral stability and the length of the pendulum enables the bottom of the missile to have rotational freedom.
