Objective To investigate the possibility of telomerase detection for the early diagnosis of primary liver cancer. Methods TRAP method was used to detect the telomerase activity in 22 cases of primary hepatocellular carcinoma and paracancerous tissues, 12 cases of cirrhosis, 6 cases of adenomatous hyperplasia and 10 cases of normal liver tissues. Results Twenty-two cases of primary hepatocellular carcinoma were positive for telomerase expression, with a positive rate of 90.9%. Twenty-four cases of paraneoplastic tissues were positive, with a positive rate of 63.6%; 12 cases. Ten cases of liver cirrhosis were positive, the positive rate was 83.3%; 6 cases of adenomatous hyperplasia in 5 cases were positive, the positive rate was 83.3%; and 10 cases of normal liver tissue telomerase detection were Negative. Conclusion The expression of telomerase activity may play an important role in the process of carcinogenesis of liver tissue. Therefore, telomerase may be a marker for the early diagnosis of liver cancer and the evaluation of its therapeutic effect and prognosis.
