There are increasing concerns about the development of social and health services among Asian advanced economies. Most researchers focus on the core content of some social services such as education, housing, social security, and health care. For research in the area of individual health, most studies are limited to specific countries and regions. Some scholars use comparative methods, focusing on the status, cost, resources, and service utilization data. This article compares and analyzes advanced Asian health systems at a deeper level, including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The article provides basic background materials and explores issues that are currently of concern to the world’s health systems, such as primary health care organizations, system allocation, cost control, service quality, and system composition. The conclusions include the question of how to classify five different systems, the common pressures that each system faces, and the need to strengthen primary health care to improve the quality of health services and the opportunities for system integration.
