Japan’s economic situation is very grim 1999-2000 Japan’s economy after a brief recovery, in October 2000 again turned to decline, into a depression situation. From April to June and from July to September 2001, Japan’s gross domestic product (GDP) showed negative growth for two consecutive quarters. As Japan’s fiscal year starts on April 1 of each year, this means that the economic situation in Japan has been further declining in the first half of 2001. Since then, the “9.11” incident in the United States and the problem of mad cow disease in Japan have even worsened Japan’s economy.
