在山西省长治县群峰环绕的老雄山下,有一位坚持根艺创作近30年的山里汉子,他便是东沟村党支部副书记李振国。现年47岁的李振国,从小便痴迷刻砖捏泥,剪纸扎灯,在当地是个出了名的“小能人”。因家庭困难,13岁时辍学在家,为给家庭分忧,他向民间老艺人拜师学艺,小小年纪便干起了泥塑不倒翁、王八打鼓等小玩样儿的营生,捏成后走街串户到集市上叫卖,经常是一竹篮的“货”很快被抢购一空。艺术的概念从此在他幼小的心里萌动。一九七三年参军入伍后,连队里画幻灯片便成了他的“专利”。一次回营的路上他捡到一个奇形怪状的树根,觉得很有意思,经琢磨因势造型做成一尊“熊竹图”。连长告诉他,这是根艺,是一门独特的民间艺术,有很高的欣赏价值、实用价值和收藏
