北宋真宗与仁宗两朝,禅宗进入了新的发展阶段。禅宗内部,沩仰宗已从式微到绝传,法眼宗自永明延寿后也从极盛走向衰微,在仁宗朝内法脉断绝。曹洞宗由盛到衰,唯大阳警玄禅师〔1〕独立支撑。与云门宗可相比较的是临济宗,汾阳善昭禅师名声大震,声势浩大,仁宗天圣年间(1023—1032年)转向南方发展。而云门宗此时活跃于南方,并开始向北发展。契嵩在《传法正宗记》中记载了禅宗五家在此时期流传情况:“正宗
