利用同源三倍体的不育性,日本遗传学家木原均在1951年首先成功地培育了三倍体无籽西瓜(3X=33=11Ⅲ)。无籽西瓜品味好,食用方便,近几年随着人们消费水平的提高,无籽西瓜种植面积逐年上升。三倍体无籽西瓜表现了多倍体的诸多特征特性,例如种皮厚,因而发芽和催芽都较二倍体西瓜
Utilizing homologous triploid sterility, Japanese geneticist Kyohara first successfully cultivated triploid seedless watermelons in 1951 (3 × = 33 = 11 Ⅲ). Seedless watermelon taste good, easy to eat, in recent years as people’s consumption levels increase, seedless watermelon acreage increased year by year. Triploid seedless watermelon showed many of the characteristics of polyploid characteristics, such as seed coat thickness, so germination and sprouting are diploid than watermelon
