For the third exchange, many manufacturers have introduced their own programs. In general, router manufacturers strategy is to add some similar to the rapid switch function; and switch manufacturers are in the switch to add some routing capabilities. From the product or technology positioning, these third-tier exchange technologies can be broadly divided into two types: LAN-oriented and WAN-oriented. Ipsilon’s IP Switching Ipsilon technology, called IP Switching, is implemented on ATM switches and leverages the high-speed hardware forwarding capabilities of ATM switches. IP switch consists of three parts: ATM switches, IP switch controller and some special management protocols such as IFMP and GSMP. IP Switch Controller is a standard IP router that runs routing protocols, establishes routing tables, and forwards Layer 3 information. Moreover, it can control the ATM switch through GSMP. IFMP is responsible for the adjacent IP switch
