Both IBM and Microsoft are giant killers, and countless SMEs are swallowed up by them, at no cost. Take IBM Lotus Lotus as an example. At that time, the Lotus Corporation had a value of 250 million U.S. dollars in the stock market. IBM used the company for 3.5 billion U.S. dollars to acquire the company. Because Lotus has strong strength in developing office software, its LOTUS1-2-3 was Microsoft’s EXCEL’s biggest competitor. This aspect of software development knowledge and technology is very important for IBM companies to develop enterprise e-commerce and management software. Therefore, IBM acquired Lotus at all costs, and did everything possible to retain the main developers of Lotus. Compared with IBM, Microsoft is much darker. When a small business launches innovative products and software that affect Microsoft’s monopoly, Microsoft will offer these companies an attractive price to acquire. After the acquisition, either add this product to Microsoft’s software package or simply kill it in the cradle. Netscape is a special case that Microsoft did not acquire.
