大北山林场位于揭西县大北山,海拔650—1100m,气候寒凉,雾雨天多, 日照较短。每年夏秋季节常有6级以上、阵风8—10级大风。土壤瘦瘠浅薄,土层厚30—70cm,表土层仅5—15cm。建场20多年来,在这样差的立地上,先后用椆、樟、杨梅、湿地松、福建柏等树种造林,生长均不理想。1977年,我们在调查当地风土树种时,发现本场西北部边远的归善山海拔850m 的山脊上,零星生长着1种野生树木—海南大头茶(Polyspora balansae),而且生长茂盛,当地群众称为“黄牛檀”。经过多年的人工育苗造林试验,证明它在上述立地条件下生长比较理想。至今已造林7300亩。造林9年的林分,平均树高3.9m,年平均高生长0.43m,生势旺盛。现将海南大头茶介绍于后。
Dabei Mountain Forest Farm is located in the Dabei Mountain of Jiexi County, with an elevation of 650-1100m. The climate is cold and cold with foggy and rainy days with short sunshine.
