2002年,江西省有私营企业3.9万户、个体工商户59.9万户,每万人拥有私营企业9.2户、拥有个体工商户141.9户;在全国31个省、市、自治区中分列第18位和第17位;与粤、苏、鲁、浙等发达地区相比,江西私营企业总量只占四省平均水平的16.1%,个体工商户仅占四省平均水平的37.9%;与中部六省相比,江西私营企业、个体工商户总量均少于湖北、河南和安徽。
