Ventricular Fibrillation - A transient hypertension occurs during defibrillation. The authors hypothesized that the functional anti-adrenergic effect of calcium channel blocker nisoldipine might weaken this “adrenergic” and reduce the potential for myocardial oxygen consumption benefit. However, other calcium channel blockers have the adverse effect of reducing the success rate of defibrillation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of nisoldipine on hemodynamic response to ventricular fibrillation-defibrillation and the energy required for defibrillation.
