《黑暗的心》是英国文学巨擘约瑟夫·康拉德的代表作之一,亦被认为是英国文学史上第一部真正意义上的现代主义小说。作者采用了诸多现代主义的表现手法,展示了维多利亚末期的英国在工业化的发展所带来经济繁荣的表象之下,人的个体性被颠覆、异化这一主题。本文主要分析《黑暗的心》中的寻觅主题,通过深度剖析主人公克尔兹及叙述者马洛深入非洲腹地寻觅财富、寻觅自我、寻觅人性的惊世之旅,揭示并反思人性及现代文明的本质。
“The Heart of Darkness” is one of the representative works of the British literary giant Joseph Conrad and is also regarded as the first true modernist novel in the history of British literature. The author adopts many expressions of modernism and demonstrates the theme of the subversion and alienation of human individualism under the appearance of economic prosperity brought by the industrialization in the late Victorian Kingdom. This article mainly analyzes the searching theme in “The Dark Heart”. Through a deep analysis of the protagonist Keltz and the narrator Marlow deep into the hinterland of Africa, looking for wealth, looking for self, searching for the start of human nature, exposing and reflecting on human nature and modern civilization Nature.
