The glass tube can replace expensive metal pipes in some projects because it has better chemical stability than a normal metal tube, the surface is very smooth and has a certain degree of mechanical strength. However, its impact strength is very low and it is easily broken. Therefore, its application range is greatly limited. In order to expand its scope of use, it is necessary to solve the brittleness of the glass tube, increase its impact resistance and other mechanical strength. In 1958, the Glass Ceramics Research Institute of the Ministry of Construction and Engineering used glass tubes with a wall thickness of 5 to 6 mm produced by the Qinhuangdao Yaohua Glass Factory and had a thickness of 4 to 5 mm or 10 to 11 mm on the outer wall of the tube. Asbestos cement has been subjected to strength tests such as pressure resistance, impact resistance, bending resistance, and water pressure. The results show that the mechanical strength is improved much, especially when the impact strength is improved.
