我1950年元旦从美国留学回国。回顾在国内五十余年的工作和生活的历程,虽曾受到“文革”的痛苦折磨,但在回国人员中还属幸运的。一生中能为祖国的高教事业、尖端国防和空间科学做出应有的贡献,全都离不开党对我的教育和培养。1962年,以周总理为首的党中央专门委员会,遵照毛主席的“要全国大力协同做好这件事”的指示,为确保原子弹研制工作的全面开展,决定在全国范围二次抽调126名科技骨干。二机部九院点名要我去从事闪光 X 射线的爆轰物理试验。1963年1月,中央组织部下调令要我去二机部报到。当时北京钢院党委已经为我创造了很好的教学和科研条件,我已开授了金属物理专业全年的 X射线学课程,并领导开展了变形合金的 X 射线线形分析、X 射线小角散射等新技术研究,全国有十余所高校派教师前来进修 X 射线学,北京大学学生也前来听课,并派学生来我实验室做毕业论文。
