陆荣廷系广西武鸣县人氏,壮族。出身绿林,清末累官至广西提督。人民国,历任广西都督、广西督军兼民政长。反对袁世凯称帝,曾宣布广西独立。旋由湖南督军调广东督军,擢两广巡阅使、任广州军政府总裁,下野后为广西边防军务督办。是旧桂系军事集团领袖,为中国近代史上极富传奇色彩的重要历史人物。 数十年来,中国史学界因其为军阀,很少作过系统而深入的研究。自治区政协文史委于五十年代开始,曾征集过不少旧桂系包括陆荣廷的史料,但研讨工作都非常有限。在不少专家学者的呼吁下,广西民族研究所、广西民族学院民族研究所、广西社会科学院历史研
