Objective To understand the status quo of residents’ participation in basic public health service projects in a certain city and its influencing factors, and to identify the key factors for providing the theoretical basis for residents to participate in basic public health service projects to the greatest extent and to promote the equalization and sustainable development of the projects. Methods From February to March of 2016, 900 residents were sampled by multistage stratified random sampling method to investigate the status quo. Rate comparison using χ2 test, the establishment of Logistic regression model to calculate the impact of participation factors, P <0.05 for the difference was statistically significant. Results A total of 856 residents were surveyed. The participation rate of residents in basic public health service was 85.51%. The difference of participation among urban, suburban and rural residents was statistically significant (χ2 = 9.017, P <0.05). Residents ’satisfaction, establishment of health records and provision of public health services are the main factors influencing residents’ participation (OR = 5.453, 95% CI 3.644 ~ 8.160; OR = 1.470, 95% CI 1.130 ~ 1.913; OR = 1.232, 95% CI 1.106 ~ 1.408). Conclusion Residents’ participation in basic public health service projects in a city needs to be further improved, and regional differences and project differences need to be resolved urgently. Corresponding measures should be taken to improve project satisfaction, improve health records management, and improve service methods to promote equal and sustainable development of the project development of.
