2003年8月17日,中国三峡总公司委托中国长江电力股份有限公司作为三峡工程电力销售代理方与输电方国家电网公司、国电华东公司、国电华中公司,及购电方上海、江苏、浙江、河南、湖北、湖南、重庆等五省二市电力公司在北京正式签订“2003年度三峡水电站购售电及输电合同”,标志着三峡工程首批机组所发电力将正式按照国家确定的分配方案和上网电价开始售电。8月18日上午,三峡左岸电站3号机组正式并网,开始投产发电。3号机组首次运用目前最先进的电力系统运行稳定装置,它能够使机组所发电能平滑人网,避免大电网出现震荡、跳闸,保证3号机组以及电网的安全稳定运行。在当前水头下,3号机组最大发电功率为540MW,加上7月份投产的2号和5号2台机组,三峡电站这3台机组的发电量已相当于一个葛洲坝大江电站。

On the morning of August 18, the No. 3 unit of the Three Gorges Left Bank Power Station was formally connected to the grid and power was put into operation. For the first time, Unit 3 uses the most advanced power system operation and stability device, which can make the unit generate electricity to smooth the network and avoid the shock and trip of the large power grid to ensure the safe and stable operation of Unit 3 and the power grid. Under the current water head, the maximum generating power of Unit 3 is 540MW, and with the 2 units and 5 units put into operation in July, the generating capacity of these 3 units of the Three Gorges Power Station is equivalent to one Gezhouba Dam.
