堆焊就是利用电弧焊或气焊,把金属熔化并堆积在工具或零件上面。它可以用于修复磨损了的工具和机器零件。例如大的锻造模具,在使用一定时期以后,就会磨损,使锻件尺寸不合要求;或者产生裂纹、崩毁等疵病,不能继续使用。这时候就可以用合乎要求的焊条,用手工电弧堆补起来,经过加工以后,修复到原来所需要的尺寸,使模具仍然可以继续使用(图1)。又像大的传动轴,在轴承部位容易磨损,磨损到一定尺寸以后,整个轴就不能使用,而要报废了。如果用堆焊法把磨损部位堆补起来,加工到所需要的尺寸,就可以照样继续使用。在制造新工具或机器零件的时候,也可以用堆焊方法。例如制造大型的高速钢铣刀,就可以用堆焊。因为这种刀具在切削的时候,只要刃口部分是高速钢就可以
