本杰明·富蘭克林(1706-1790)是美国波士頓一个小商人的兒子。他的父亲,原来住在英国,因为不信英国国敎,受到迫害,于1685年来到美洲的。父亲本来在英国做染坊生意,到了美洲,染坊生意維持不了一家的生活,便改做牛油蠟燭和肥皂。富蘭克林的兄弟也都是商人和学徒。富蘭克林小时学習成績很好。他的父亲因家庭負担过重,又看到許多有学問的人穷得沒有飯吃,所以富蘭克林到了十岁的时候,就不讓他上学,而要他跟自己一塊学做蠟燭和肥皂。但是富蘭克林不喜欢这門行業,他很想去航海;父亲怕他远走他乡,同时又看見他欢喜讀書,在他十二岁时,就叫他到哥哥詹姆斯的印刷店里去做学徒,并且訂了十年的合同。
Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) is the son of a small businessman in Boston, United States. His father, who originally lived in the United Kingdom, came to the Americas in 1685 because he did not believe in British nationalism and was persecuted.
